The Emotions of Retirement - Feeling Good About Finding New Purpose! |
|
I will never retire until my body actually stops working. Because of the nature of my work, I feel I will be doing it for a long time. I enjoy it. It gives me purpose. That is what we all need; a purpose, a calling, a reason to get up in the morning. It is about you being a balanced person and yet it is also about others. When you are motivated by not only your own needs but the needs of others, you automatically have a purpose. That is the key to retirement, to the next and most important phase of your life. Those who have a purpose are happier and live longer and happier lives. Work is now your main daily purpose in life. One day you will leave that job to begin the next chapter in your life. How do you find your new purpose? How do you make a wonderful transition from one phase of your life to this new and exciting period? That’s what this workshop (also an Internet Seminar) is all about, so let’s get planning for your emotional retirement! Some kind of awful poisonous substance that we will poke into our faces to look younger- not just once, but repeatedly. However, I am considering eyelash extensions but not Botox and never, never cosmetic surgery. With all the creams, lotions, hair dyes, nail extensions etc available that can be used to give us a little “boost”, I see surgery or Botox as unnecessary. I don’t want to have some parts sagging and some not. Some parts so tight they look like I am going to crack and others hanging off. I want everything to sag equally. Just let nature and gravity do what happens naturally. Learn to love yourself and practise healthy living that will help. What is the problem with getting older? Nothing, it is a natural progression we will all go through. Many of us think of aging and retirement together. Retirement has also become a negative thing for many of us. It is a reality that many of us will have to retire. Because retirement is the end of something, it can be frightening and overwhelming. Our life is going to change. But an ending starts a beginning of something else. f you realize they happen together, then endings and change are not as fearful, not as overwhelming or not as mentally challenging. Many of us work in jobs that have a requirement that one day we have to depart. We have to put in our time and then we have to leave and move on to the next phase; to what can be our best years. Why do I say that? Because it’s true. Demographics reflect that the population is aging; there are less younger folks and more middle to golden year’s folks. There is power in numbers, maybe we will be able to make positive changes and take some of the stigma off growing old. It is natural and it is inevitable; we are all growing older. Growing old is not a bad thing. Of course we have to look after ourselves, but it can be a very exciting time. Many cultures respect their elders and look to them for guidance. Let’s be role models for the next generation of retirees. Let’s show them that you can love life, love yourself and really enjoy your best years.
