About Nancy

About_Nancy_-_CredentialsI consider myself a lifelong learner, but also a late bloomer. I think we are all like the old oak tree. As we get older and the roots go deep, we bloom into the person we were always struggling to be. I feel I am getting more and more like the old oak tree.

As a child I would bring home stray animals and do good deeds for my older neighbours. My child’s shoulders were often burdened by the sadness in the world. My dad would try and reassure me by telling me that it was not possible for me to save the world.

I always felt I could.

I think if we focus on doing one kind act at a time, these small steps will lead to something greater. I think we can all make a difference in some small way. Giving back to the community by volunteering at shelters or non profit agencies is a way to do this as well.

I recently became involved in several local groups including the Sexual Assault Support Services for Women group in Cornwall, the Glengarry Education Committee, the Alexandria’s Women’s Entrepreneurs board, and the Canadian Animal Massage and Bodyworkers Association.

Not only is it a great way to give back but an opportunity to meet some amazing people!

In yoga and other spiritual modalities you focus on karma, with every action there is a reaction. I believe we do good to others and a wee bit of that comes back to us. It is a great philosophy to live by.

The Snow Angels Sanctuary has also decided to become a sanctuary for feral cats. This is a new endeavour that I hope will help the feral cats in our area, control the population and also create some good karma.

True to being a later bloomer, I didn’t attend post secondary education after finishing high school and decided to wait and work for a few years. My first school interest was a textile art program which was a creative and exciting.

Realizing the difficulty in creating a career in this field I decided to return to school and eventually became a social worker, which was a natural progression for me.

During my 30’s I moved to Yellowknife in the NWT and it was there that I was introduced to energy work and complimentary medicines such as aromatherapy.

Being from the east coast of Canada, you always get the “call” to move back, and I headed back east, settling in a tiny village in coastal Labrador. It was there I feel I really “found myself” met my dogs and developed a great love of nature and appreciation for life.

I briefly moved back to my home town of St. John’s to be with my mom, who passed away in February 2008, after a brave battle with cancer. I am now living in Quebec, in very rural area, amongst the animals and the other trees that are deeply rooted.

Nancy
